Byron C. Burnett, CHE
Byron held positions with increasing responsibility up to vice president of operations reporting to the chairman of General Medical and the president of Whittaker Corporation. He had responsibility for 60 divisions, approximately 1,100 employees and a fleet of 400 vehicles. He had facilities responsibility for two million square feet of warehouse, office, and manufacturing space in 70 locations.
In 1982, Byron joined The Methodist Hospital System and held several executive positions for The Methodist Hospital and various subsidiary corporations with responsibility for purchasing, receiving/distribution, security, mail and transportation, patient transportation, central service, facility management services, the medical office buildings and a for-profit pharmacy. He established a group purchasing program for the primary facility and affiliates that compared favorably to the “Super Groups” (documented by Ernst & Young on three occasions). Byron chaired or served on numerous committees, including those related to product standardization, pharmacy and therapeutics, business practices, long-range planning, and several industry-related boards.
Byron left The Methodist Hospital System in 2000 to become an independent consultant. Clients included The Methodist Hospital, Memorial/Hermann Health Care System, Polly Ryon Memorial Hospital, Commerce Health and V4 Consulting. He returned to The Methodist Hospital System in 2003, where he held the position of senior vice president, The Methodist Hospital, and president and CEO, The Methodist Hospital medical office buildings. Byron retired from The Methodist Hospital System in December 2006 and returned to his career as an independent health care consultant.
